A Story of Sophomore Entrepreneurship: Sweet Drivers
Since August 2011, the founders of Sweet Drivers have been
creating a student driver magnet that is appealing to teenagers and
parents. The purpose of this
magnet is to identify student drivers to others driving behind them. We hope spreading awareness will increase safety, while decrease road rage, tailgating and rear-end collisions. Sweet
Drivers plans to donate 15% of their proceeds to a non-profit organization that
is dedicated to the safety of teenage drivers.
Co-founder Allissa was learning to drive in Houston, Texas
during Summer 2011. Due the
chaotic freeways and traffic, her mother expressed the desire for a student
driver magnet. They proceeded by making a homemade student
driver magnet, which proved successful.
Allissa experienced less road rage because most Houston drivers were
more patient once they noticed the magnet, allowing her more time to make sharp
turns.
After noticing the success of the magnet, Allissa decided to
design a magnet that would appeal to parents and teenagers. At the beginning of
her sophomore year at Sweet Briar College, she asked Anna, also a student, to continue
the project with her, as her business partner. Every week Anna and Allissa met to discuss their progress,
brainstorm design ideas, while setting goals and a timeline. Finally, in January of 2012, Sweet Drivers
became an official partnership and is now in full swing.
